How to do screen printing

- Jul 14, 2017 -

Silkscreen printing allows artists to create the same images. You can also draw small variations of the same pattern on the image. Silk screens are one of the fastest and simplest printing methods available, which can be applied to paper, t-shirts, or other surfaces to create unique works of art. While you can buy pre-assembled packages from an art store, it's simple enough to assemble your own bag and start making silk prints.

Draw a white and black line on a piece of paper. Make sure your drawing is bold, so it can be easily tracked. Put your picture on the work surface so it doesn't move. Locate your work area where it can be easily cleared and you don't mind getting dirty.

Hang your screen on the top of the bottle and put it on top of your image. As long as the distance between the screen and the paper is small, any small uniform surface can be. Make sure the screen is slightly larger than your image, so the entire image fits on the screen.

Put your apron and gloves on your apron before proceeding with your silk screen image. Paint your image on the screen with a drawing fluid and a fine brush. Only follow the details that you want to display in the final image. Let the tension dry. You'll know it's dry when it looks bright.

Place the image on the cardboard and pour the filtrate onto the top of the picture. The liquid and screen fill on the screen isn't compatible, so it's a good idea to use the same brand for both. Use a rubber cleaner to evenly pull the screen filling fluid on the image. Let it dry.

Use hose or pressurized water to clean the screen. This will make printing even more uniform. Let the screen dry for a day. Use a brush to remove any area that is not clear on the screen. Make sure all the blue paint is washed away. Attach the waterproof tape to the perimeter of your image. Don't cover any part of your picture that you want to display.

Connect your screen to a frame. These items can be purchased at most art stores and save you time to make your own woodwork. Make sure the screen is pulled tight to get the best quality image.

Pour the ink on your frame and use a rubber cleaner to make sure you're putting the ink on all the parts of the print. Pull your screen down to the surface you want. If this is your first screen, you might want to try printing on paper and then apply the image to other surfaces, such as fabrics. Let your printing dry.
