Braided structure

The screen printing mesh has two weaving methods: plain weave and twill weave. Most are 1:1 plain weave. The mesh range is 15 mesh (or less) to 508 mesh (or more).

The thickest polyester mesh is usually used to print textiles, using shiny inks or other large-particle inks, or using adhesives or glues for industrial applications. With a mesh diameter of more than 400 μm, the mesh thickness is approximately 900 μm. Many polyester meshes have mesh diameters ranging from (35 to 63) μm. Screens in this range are suitable for a wide range of applications, including decal printing, P-O-P graphic printing, industrial printing, and OEM printing.

The diameter of polyester mesh is (24~33)μm, which is suitable for very fine wire mesh. These screens are used for four-color printing with particularly fine lines and high lines. Again, the minimum mesh should cover three meshes to avoid losing the mesh.

Stainless steel wire can be as thin as 11 μm and woven at 840 lines/inch. This is very surprising, and it will continue to be developed to meet more demanding printing needs.

Selecting a screen suitable for a print job requires an analysis of the type of ink, the viscosity, and the required opacity (ink thickness). The ink thickness is affected by the thickness of the screen and the area of the openings. A quick way to estimate ink thickness is: Mesh thickness in micrometers x Proportion of open area. Other factors that need to be considered include the subtleties of the original artwork and the precision of the final product and durability requirements.

Twill structures are generally used for mesh that is too thick to be woven 1:1. The diameter and number of meshes of such meshes requires that the braided structure must be 2:1 or 2:2, which can be used in textile and industrial applications. These applications require long-lived durability and require thick adhesive or paste layers, but do not require a fine level. Therefore, twill weave screens are used for jobs requiring a lot of coating that are extremely opaque. Due to the impeded ink flow, greater screen disturbances and more substrate contact, twill weaving is the worst choice for finer levels of printing.


Thread diameter/number of meshes

These comprehensive factors determine the size of the mesh opening and the ratio of the opening area, and have a great influence on the final printing effect. Wire mesh manufacturers will set a standard for each of their screens, specifying the mesh tolerance, screen thickness, aperture size, and open area percentage.

When selecting a screen, consider the particle size or viscosity of the ink or other material to ensure proper ink transfer. Understand the required ink thickness and select the appropriate screen according to the manufacturer's specifications. Remember to apply the above mentioned method of quickly estimating the ink layer thickness. Calculate the minimum dot size and divide by 4 to get the mesh opening area and select the mesh according to the specifications provided by the factory.
